Title: The Giver

Genre: Fiction

Author: Lois Lowry

The book The Giver was about a boy named Jonas who lived in a perfect community. He got selected to be the Receiver of Memories. This means he will hold all the memories of the past for the people. He learns while being The Receiver how “perfect” his community really is. How far will he go to change the society?

The theme of this book is what makes us human. The author thinks that what makes us human is emotions and feelings. The people in the book gave up there freedom of choice and there feelings, which made them act like they aren’t people anymore. The author wants us to understand how they weren’t really human. I agree with this because the people in the book didn’t act like they where humans they acted like robots controlled by the community and the elders. So yes I do agree with the author.

I thought the book was ok. I didn’t like how they release people and send them to “elsewhere.” I also didn’t like all of their rules like you can’t pick your spouse and kids. I don’t agree with how they lived, the book was interesting but I didn’t like the contents of the book.

If I had to rate this I would give it a 3.5 out of 5, because It was really weird in the way they talked and lived, also because it confused you a lot in the end. But what I did like about it was the fact that it made you think. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a trivia and likes to think a lot!! Well that concludes my paper on The Giver.
